Courtney Herefords...
The
Foundation....
If you are looking for ways to
reduce costs, the best place to start is with low
maintenance Hereford cows. And what better place to begin
than here at Courtney Herefords, where our cow herd has
been one of the nation's top ranked, most efficient cow
herds for many years. We plan each mating with maternal
traits given top priority. Our herd bulls (pictured
below) sire productive, high volume, problem-free females
that make their living honestly off the prairie, grazing
nine to ten months each year. We use only herd bulls with
outstanding performance, thickness and muscle. Experience
tells us that our cows must have extra volume and
thickness to be productive and survive our tough Montana
prairie conditions.

Prairie Performance
For the past 40 years our ranch
has been basically a range-based test station. The
perfect proving ground for a purebred operation.
Originally a sheep outfit, our ranch offers limited
winter shelter with no grain fields or meadows and
oftentimes is short on water and grass and long on
grasshoppers. This environment exposes any shortcomings
and allows us to select only those cattle that excel as
we push for as much performance (pounds) as possible.
Therefore, we use only bulls with outstanding thickness,
muscle, performance and correct structure...traits
essential for productivity under our conditions. It just
makes sense that if we're raising bulls for the
commercial cattleman, our cattle should be run the same
way. Customers appreciate that there is no adjustment
period with our bulls.
You're invited to visit our
ranch... the cattle will speak for
themselves.
